AbstractAn oral history of Sue Tsuda, former Fullerton Councilwoman, Fullerton’s School Board member and active member of the League of Women Voters. The interview was conducted for the Women, Politics, and Activism Since Suffrage Oral History Project for California State University, Fullerton’s Center for Oral and Public History. The purpose of this interview was to gather information regarding her time spent in office as well as her time spent working for the Fullerton’s School Board and the League of Women Voters. Specifically, this interview provides information on Sue’s childhood growing up in rural south Cook County, Chicago where her father was a machinist and her mother an active League of Women Voters member; she explains her parent’s interest in politics; she recalls the day Pearl Harbor was attacked and the impact it had on her community; she talks about some of the members of her family who served in the military; she discusses the League’s role in the community and how this one has evolved over the years; she explains the work she did while acting as the League’s president and state board member of the League of Women Voters; she talks about her memories driving around registering voters; she discusses her interest and involvement in politics; she explains details about running hers and Frances Wood campaign (Frances Wood is the first woman elected to Fullerton city council and mayor); she explains the complexities of holding office , like when some Republican members of the council did not permit her to become the city’s mayor; she explains her role and contributions to Fullerton’s School Board; she talks about her contributions to Fullerton planning commission; she discusses some of the projects she is presently working on with The Center for Healthy Generations in Yucca Valley; she gives an insightful advise to young women who want to be involve politics.
