Recounts conditions in the Santo Tomas University and Los Banos internment camps, and the dramatic rescue of the civilian internees in Los Banos from death at the hands of their Japanese guards.

An American merchant seaman serving aboard the American President Line ship President Harrison recalls his arrival in Shanghai, China, just before the outbreak of World War II in the Pacific theater. After his ship was grounded near Shanghai, he was forced, with other crew members to salvage the ship. Interned in 1943, he describes his experiences.
