A native of Nebraska who moved to Brea, California in 1922 discusses her
former duties as bookkeeper for Dr. C. Glenn Curtis and as secretary to
California Assembly Speaker Edward “Ted” Craig. The Alexanders owned and
operated Alexander’s Market in Brea from the 1940s to 1963. She recalls
rationing, coupons, and supply shortages during World War II, as well as
the effects of the war on the community of Brea.

for hours of work donated by the unemployed.
